Voter fraud concerns are being monitored by the U.S. Department of Justice which is sending 800 federal observers and Department personnel to 59 jurisdictions in 23 state
Voter fraud during the Nov. 4, 2008 election is of special concern to the U. S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and its Civil Rights Division. Although state and local governments have primary responsibility for administering elections, the Department is charged with and committed to protecting the rights of all citizens to access the ballot on Election Day, and to preventing and prosecuting voter fraud. Voter Fraud Watch ProgramVoter fraud complaints can be filed with the DOJ's Civil Right Division and will be handled by the U.S. Attorney's Offices across the country and also the Criminal Division' s Public Integrity Section. They can also be directed to the local FBI offices. According to a statement by Attorney General Michael B. Mukasey, "On November 4, hundreds of Department of Justice lawyers, monitors and observers will be working throughout the country to help make sure that all Americans who are entitled to vote are able to do so, and that the elections accurately represent the will of the people." Voter Fraud ComplaintsVoter fraud complaints have already been reported as registrations continue to appear with bogus names and addresses. Complaints can be reported from anywhere in the United States to the Justice Department Civil Rights Division at 1-800-253-3931 or at its website http://www.usdoj.gov/ and also to the U.S. Attorneys' Offices, local FBI offices or the Public Integrity Section at 1-202-524-1412. All election monitoring activities will be coordinated with local officials.
