The Barrack Obama presidency signals the "dawn of a new America." The Obama campaign fulfills the dream of Martin Luther King Jr., prompting equal opportunity for all.

While it may true that Barrack Obama won a landslide victory in the Presidential race, the 2008 Presidential election represents a historic victory. It embodies the vision of the late Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s vision of an 'equal land of opportunity."

U.S. Presidential Election 2008 - A Victory in Itself

The victory of the Obama campaign is a victory in itself, although much of the nation believes that the U.S. is in a state of mess, both economically and in terms of foreign policy. But before passing a judgement on this historical young President Elect, it may be wise to reflect on the achievement itself from the perspective of an earlier time in history, when people spoke of similar ideas.

It is also wise to note at this time that several African American activists, including the Rev. Jesse Jackson, had offered themselves as candidates for top offices in the country, and lost because they were representing their minority views.

Concerns and Issues of the American People Represented

In the case of Senator Obama, he brings to front and center the agenda of a large group of Americans - genuinely concerned about where the country is heading. Is it possible that the Bush administration was not aware that the credit crunch would not happen? Worse yet, did President Bush not account for the massive losses in Iraq both in terms of casualties and finances when he factored out an equation to fight terrorism from within.

Paranoia vs. Security in the Context of September 11, 2001 Attacks?

As one commentator pointed out, there can never be a totally secure society, where we are free from attack and tragedy. Perhaps, at the time of 9/11, the concern was somewhat more imminent, but clearly the nation needs to move on. And that appears to be the consensus.

Can Obama Bail Out Wall Street?

And no matter what messianic expectations Obama carries with him from the point of a "Black Savior delivering his flock," this is a herculean task for any master mind. Yes, Senator Obama has made some interesting speeches and his words surely were convincing to the American people. But will he be able to bail out Wall Street? And this time without the government and the Federal Reserve taking a hit for the sequence of events leading to the aftermath of the credit crisis. How will he get American back on its feet, after a turmoil of massive proportions in the financial markets? And what about the conundrum in the weak housing market? Are there proper answers to these questions?

U.S. Too Busy Policing the World or Representing the World in Iraq?

With the increase in fuel prices, and unemployment on the rise, there will be key policy issues from outsourcing to trade that the President Elect will have to route out. To many in other parts of the world, the U.S. has talked about behind its back as the 'policeman of the world.' And rightly so with interventions like those in Iraq, and the Middle East in general. Foreign policy is bound to take a twist with Obama in office, but to what extent? That will be what the American people will be looking to their next President for.
