Rarely is there ever a huge story coming out of Delaware, but Obama's announcement of Delaware's Senator Joe Biden as his running mate, Delaware has been put on the map.

Biden is currently in his sixth term as senator for The First State. He started in 1973 and is the fifth youngest senator in U.S. History. Before his terms as senator Biden did his undergraduate studies at the University of Delaware; he went to Syracurse University College of Law, and after graduating he was admitted to the Delaware Bar.

Senator of Delaware

Biden took office as senator at the age of 30 in the midst of tragedy. His wife and infant daughter died in a car accident, and his sons were critical injured during in December. Biden was sworn in January 3, 1973 at his sons' beside.

Biden's agenda has always been set on Delaware especially in protecting land and parks. According to biden.senate.gov, which lists some of his accomplishments during his 35 year track record, Biden worked to get lands of Cape Henlopen State Park re-established as land for public use instead of excess for Military. Now Cape Henlopen is 5,000 acres and the beach is now five miles long.

During his career Biden also looked into flooding that was consistantly occuring at Little Mill Creek in Elsmere, Delaware. According to Senate.Biden.gov, he was able to gain $2.1 million in federal funding to help in construction of the project to correct the problem.

Outside of Delaware

Biden created The Kids 2000 Act which helped to close the gap between kids who had computers and therefore growing more computer literate and also have more of an advantage above their peers without computers to use. The Act helped to create computer centers in Boys and Girls Clubs across the United States. Corporations also donated service and equipment in this Act.

Biden.Senate.gov also said, that Biden, "he pressed the Bush administration to acknowledge the genocide, to increase sanctions on Khartoum and to deliver humanitarian assistance to refugees." Biden also created legislation that also passed,"urging the President to establish a NATO-led No Fly Zone over Darfur to prevent the Sudanese government from supplying the Janjaweed militia and attacking civilians."

The Impact of Biden on Obama's Campaign

Biden adds to Obama's presidential campaign, a long track record in Foreign Policy and tenure in Washington D.C. According to USnews.com, "Biden contends that Bush has neglected big issues like Russia's renewed power, climate change, energy and food shortfalls, and the impact of a rising China and India. He brands the Bush foreign policy as one of "incompetence."" Unfortunately Biden has a problem involving his mouth. He has said things that have caused him to put his foot in his mouth on different occasions, but Biden says exactly what is on his mind and that personality trait that has been with him during all of his 35 years in the Senate. People have recognized that he is Biden being Biden.

Dear Joe,
May I suggest a way to help kickstart the economey, how about giving everyone that received a stimulas check but this time the seniors receive regardles of income the same amount as eveyone else a $500.00 food stamp card. This would help everyone the growers, shippers, distributors, manufacturing, packaging, truckers, food store outlets and Mom's kitchen table. It would also show the country that the Congress cares about the average American and not just the big money guys problems. Thanks, your old friend from "72" Jim Walker
