John Mc Cain's Stunning Vice Presidential Pick Overshadows Biden

Senator Joseph Biden, a distinguished politician, pales next to the allure of Governor Sarah Palin the first female Republican GOP candidate in history.

Democrats thought nothing was more inspiring than Barak Obama’s speech accepting the mantle as their presidential contender at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado on August 28, 2008. In his acceptance speech, he vowed to change the nation. Turning on Republican nominee, John McCain, Obama said McCain "doesn't know" about the lives of middle-class Americans.

“McCain, “ he said, “ is too much like Bush, and will continue most, if not all, of the president's policies.”

To prove his point, Obama showcased Senator Joe Biden, his vice presidential nominee, as an experienced statesman, a foreign policy pro, and a man with working class roots. "America, he said, “we cannot turn back. We cannot walk alone. At this moment, in this election, we must pledge once more to march into the future."

Sarah Palin for Vice President

The next day, his opponent astounded everyone by marching into the present campaign with a female vice presidential candidate in tow: Sarah Heath Palin, the governor of Alaska. The Mc’Cain –Palin ticket is a coupe for an elderly candidate charged with being out of step with 21st century domestic and global issues.

Next to Palin, Biden looks like leftovers, like yesterdays news. He is a known political quantity and historic only in the sense of his chronological age. Palin on the other hand, is an unknown from a sparsely inhabited and mysterious territory; the Anchorage bedroom community of Wasilla. She is young, only 44 years old, good looking, and incredibly spunky; how many people of either gender would attempt to govern an arctic state while rearing five children one of which is an infant with Down’s syndrome? There is a resonance to the call of Palin’s Yukon, which goes deep into the alchemic veins of American history.

Obama's Reaction to Palin

Apprised of Mc Cain’s choice, a stammering Obama conceded on national television that Palin was " yet another encouraging sign that old barriers are falling in our politics.” Perhaps a bit wistfully, he added. "While we obviously have differences over how best to lead this country forward, Governor Palin is an admirable person and will add a compelling new voice to this campaign."

Will Palin Succeed to the Oval Office?

Whether Palin succeeds or fails as a vice presidential candidate is anyone’s guess. A presidential campaign is unpredictable and the characters and the stamina of the candidates are the real measure of who wins or loses. Palin may or may not be up to the challenge. Her nomination, however, is a refreshing wake up call. Just when the most charismatic candidate and his respected side kick are fixated in the warmth of the national spotlight, a north wind blows.

And along comes Governor Sarah Palin.

Love your article! Can't wait to see what happens next - Palin is the freshest wind to blow into American politics in a loooong time. AND she has more experience than Obama! Exciting stuff! Glad you decided to tackle this topic. Keep up the great work.
